Monihara

Part of Bengali anthology film, comprised of three stories, short stories written by Rabindranath Tagore and directed by Satyajit Ray, Monihara (Lost Jewels) is available as a separate short film on youtube. Narrated by a Bengali school teacher, sees the film revolving around two individuals Phanibhusan Saha as a jute mill owner and Manimalika as his wife. They come to live in a sprawling bungalow, near their jute mill. Its a inherited property rich with antiques and paintings and sculptures and rich furniture. But the wife is more interested in the family jewels. The jute mill catches fire and the guy has to run to Calcutta to fetch some money to pay off his debts. Wife has other plans. There is a scary scene in the end. Kanika Majumdar as Manimalika is beautiful, Satyajit Ray excels in his direction and camera work.
