On Safari

On Safari: The Story of my Life by Armand Denis, a Belgian film maker and environmentalist. He traveled widely to the remote jungles of Africa to make films on wild animals and their habitat. Many of these films helped raise the awareness for the wildlife and against the kind of mass poaching that was taking place then when millions of animals were being slaughtered for their horns, tails and what not for being used in the Orient as medicines. Later on, they presented a series on wildlife for the BBC World Service which raised awareness of the plight of animals much more than the movies being made. This book has a fascinating account of the elephants of Congo, the pygmies of Congo, the plentiful wildlife of Serengeti, habitat of crocodiles, his attempt at creating a farm for chimpanzees, and gorillas (which went wrong). Goodreads 5/5
