Requiem for a schoolgirl

Requiem for a schoolgirl by Ivan T. Ross a.k.a. Robert Rossner. Ben Gordon is a schoolteacher in a primary school. Laurie Mitchell is his student, young but precocious and kind of different from other kids in school. Initially abrasive and reticent, but later on the schoolteacher starts recognizing her innate talent. But her life is gone, she dies and then everything falls asunder. Things start happening at a rapid pace for the school teacher, with ugly goings on in the small town. Ben himself gets socked, police from two precincts are in, another kid gets shot, druggies, gangsters, prominent businessman, all end up in a tumultuous finale.   Goodreads 5/5
